Main Street of America - Home of Zane Grey
This museum offers visitors three major exhibit areas. The first is devoted to the National Road, early America's busiest land artery to the West. The National Road stretched from Cumberland, Maryland to Vandalia, Illinois. Begun in 1806, the "Main Street of America" was the only significant land link between the east coast and western frontier in the early 19th century.
A 136 - foot diorama of the National Road with many objects illustrates this theme.
Father of the Adult Western
Second is Zane Grey, the "Father of the Adult Western" the Zanesville author wrote more than 80 books. His study is re-created and includes many manuscripts and other memorablilia.
Ohio Art Pottery
Finally, a central portion of the museum presents Ohio art pottery, part of the region's heritage.
The National Road Zane Grey Museum is operated by the Ohio Historical Society, a nonprofit organization that serves as the state's partner in preserving and interpreting Ohio's history, archaeology and natural history.
